Settling in for the winter Solstice

When I lived in Germany I learned how to work more creatively with the seasons. Since the weather here in the PNW is similar, I have been able to spend most of my days working on orders and not stress to much about getting out of the house. Now that the hustle the holiday season is coming to a close, I will be able to work on new creative projects that have been on the back burner.

As the winter solstice arrived, it's the perfect time to slow down, reflect, and embrace the cozy vibes of the season. Instead of letting the shorter days bring you down, why not use this time to ignite your creativity and embark on new projects?

Creating a Cozy Space

Start by creating a cozy space in your home where you can let your creativity flow. Light some candles, play inspiring music, and surround yourself with inspiring objects that spark your imagination. Whether it's a corner of your living room or a dedicated craft room, make it a space where you feel comfortable and inspired.

Exploring New Hobbies

The winter solstice is the perfect opportunity to explore new hobbies and interests. Have you always wanted to learn how to knit, paint, or write poetry? Now is the time to dive in and see where your creativity takes you. Don't be afraid to try something new and embrace the learning process.

Me and my daughter have been exploring working with paper crafts and visible mending and for the holiday, set up a new area to make these kinds of projects together.

I bought some of this embroidery thread and Japanese needles for easy hand sewing. It makes it much easier to mend items without hurting myself pushing through thicker fabric like jeans. I also grabbed some of these re-usable patterns so my daughter could reference some traditional Japanese Shashiko patterns.

Setting Intentions

Take some time to set intentions for the winter season. What do you hope to accomplish creatively? Whether it's finishing a novel, starting a blog, or learning a new skill, write down your goals and make a plan to achieve them. Setting intentions can help you stay focused and motivated throughout the season.

Connecting with Nature

Use the winter solstice as an opportunity to connect with nature and find inspiration in the world around you. Take a walk in the crisp winter air, observe the changing landscape, and let the beauty of the season fuel your creativity. Nature has a way of sparking new ideas and refreshing your perspective.

Maybe take some trimming of cedar from your walk and throw them in a simmer pot with a stick of cinnamon, clove or orange slice and really tune into that sense of smell in your home. It really sets the tone of your day.

Embracing the Season

Above all, embrace the winter solstice as a time to slow down, reflect, and create. Use this season to nurture your creative spirit, try new things, and connect with your inner artist. Whether you're painting, writing, crafting, or simply dreaming up new ideas, let the winter solstice be a time of inspiration and renewal.
